How to gift tokenized stocks to a friend

by Ali Tiknazoglu · updated sep 18, 2026

The simplest way to gift real stock onchain is a sealed box. You buy it for $0.10 and send it to your friend's wallet; when they open it, a random slice of a Coinbase tokenized stock - like NVIDIA or Apple - lands in their wallet. Neither of you knows what is inside until they open it.

What your friend needs

  • A wallet on Base. An address, or a name like name.base.eth. No Coinbase account and no USDC.
  • A little ETH on Base to open it. Opening costs $0.05 in ETH, plus a network fee under a cent.
  • To live where they may hold it. Coinbase tokenized stocks are not offered to US persons, and not everywhere else either.

Send a box in four steps

  1. Step 1 - buy boxes

Choose how many boxes you want on the home page, from 1 to 100, and pay in USDC on Base. Each box lands in your wallet, still sealed.

  2. Step 2 - press Gift box

Open your profile and press Gift box, or press Send right after buying. Pick how many sealed boxes to send - up to 100 at a time.

  3. Step 3 - enter their wallet

Type your friend's wallet address, or a name like name.base.eth. The form shows the address a name belongs to before you send. Confirm once: the boxes move in one transaction that costs under a cent.

  4. Step 4 - they open it

Your friend connects the same wallet on Gifted Stock and opens the box from their profile. The draw picks the prize and the company, and the stock arrives in their wallet in seconds.

What they get

A real Coinbase tokenized stock, worth anything from $0.01 to $1.00 at the price the moment they open it - the odds table lists every prize and its chance. It is theirs: keep it, sell it for USDC from their profile, or send it on. A box can be worth less than it cost; the average payout is set in the contract.

Once opened, a box cannot be moved again, so it stays a permanent record of what it paid. Until then it is a normal NFT: your friend can open it, keep it sealed, send it on or sell it on an NFT marketplace.

Or send the stock itself

If you already hold a tokenized stock, you can send the token like any other token from your wallet: it is a B20 token, an extension of ERC-20, so any wallet on Base can receive it. Buy one first with USDC - how to buy tokenized stocks on Base. The box is the surprise version.

Questions

Does my friend need a Coinbase account?

No. A wallet on Base is enough to receive a box and open it, and the stock goes to that wallet.

Can I send a box to a basename or ENS name?

Yes. The send form takes an address or a name like name.base.eth and shows the address it belongs to before you confirm.

What does gifting cost?

The box is $0.10 in USDC. Sending it costs only the network fee, usually under a cent. Opening costs $0.05 in ETH, paid by whoever opens it.

What if my friend never opens it?

A sealed box lasts one year. After that it expires and pays nothing.

Can I gift more than one box?

Yes, up to 100 sealed boxes in one confirmation.

Can I gift a box to someone in US?

Coinbase tokenized stocks are not offered to US persons, so a friend in US should not open one. Check the rules where they live first.
